QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school education is preferred.

2. Previous experience in preparing meals for large group is desirable.

3. On the job training will be given in food preparation, as well as sanitation and hygiene.

4. Continuing education is encouraged at local technical college. Inservice education is offered.

SKILLS NEEDED:

1. Walks short distances between stoves, sinks, work counters, and food carts, and stand continuously approximately 80% of shift.

2. Must be able to follow verbal and/or written instructions accurately.

3. Must be able to follow recipes and directions for special diets accurately.

4. Stoops, reaches for and lifts throughout shift. May be required to lift approximately 10 to 60 pounds.

5. Must work near hot stoves and ovens, will retrieve items from refrigerators and freezers.

6. Must follow guidelines for sanitation and safety.

JOB SUMMARY:

Cook position is responsible for proper care of all equipment in the dietary department. Prepares, cooks, and serves a wide variety of foods and beverages, including many types of diets as ordered by the physician. Responsible for sanitation, hygiene, and cleanliness of the food preparation areas.

JOB DETAIL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Check menus for preparation and advance preparation needed for supper and for the following day.

2. Makes and bakes cookies, cakes, and special desserts and salads.

3. Prepares soup, entrees, and vegetables for supper trays and dining room

4. Assembles serving utensils at tray time and dishes up servings at evening meal.

5. Helps dish evening meal for delivery to CCDI, Assisted Living and residents trays.

6. Wheels food in portable steam tables to the west and south dining rooms. Serves hot foods and oversees meal service at evening meal.

7. Cleans tray service area, washed pots and pans, clean stoves, counters and steam tables. Sanitizes all areas.

8. Check all stoves, windows, locks doors and freezers; turns out lights, shuts off air conditioner, shuts storeroom door, etc. to make sure the kitchen is properly closed up for the night.

9. Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

10. Abides by personnel policy of the facility.
